Have you heard the term "FAMILECT" before? It's like a mash-up of "family" and "dialect."
Someone coined it a while back, and "The Atlantic" did an article last year. Now it's in the news because the holidays are coming up.
It means made-up words or phrases that only you and your family use. It also includes things like inside jokes and shared references.
For example, maybe your dad accidentally called himself your "Dud" 20 years ago. So you've been teasing him by calling him Dud ever since.
Someone polled over 20,000 Americans and asked if their family has its own "familect". And around two in five people said yes.
39% said they do . . . 41% don't . . . and 20% might, but can't remember any words or phrases specifically.

Millions of people grew up on those "The More You Know" videos on NBC. They were 30-second PSAs featuring celebrities feeding kids all the classic lines . . . you know, don't do drugs, stay in school and all that.
Even kids who weren't alive when they were on have seen memes of the logo, featuring a shooting star leaving a rainbow trail behind it.
Well, NBC is bringing them back, but to Peacock. And the episodes will be several minutes now, because, quote, "sometimes it's hard in 30 seconds or 15 seconds to boil down the complexities of everything."
Celebrities in this new batch of episodes will include John Legend, Steph Curry, and that rad dude all the kids are rapping about, Al Roker.

Earlier this month, an invader broke into a home in Wisconsin, and completely trashed the place. But it wasn't a burglar. It was a DEER.
The homeowners say the deer burst through their front door and entered their living room. It ran in a circle, and then stormed up the steps to the second floor.
The deer was scared and ran from room to room upstairs, looking out all the windows. Sadly, it was bleeding from its mouth and legs. There was blood everywhere, and they could hear glass breaking and things getting smashed. It even poked holes in the ceiling with its antlers.
Three hours later, wildlife experts showed up . . . got the deer to calm down . . . and directed it back down the stairs and out the door.
It's unclear why the deer ran into the house, but officials believe it MIGHT have seen the reindeer holiday decorations outside and been sexually excited. (watch to see the decorations..this deer has problems.)

Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield are teaming up to sell Holy Ears . . . cannabis-infused edibles shaped like BITTEN EARS.
Obviously, that's a reference to the 1997 fight where Tyson bit a chunk out of Evander's ear. They made their peace years ago.
Tyson was already selling a similar product called Mike Bites through his cannabis company . . . but now Evander is officially in on the action.
He says, quote, "They said it's about helping people. So I said, 'I ain't got no problem helping people.'"

Here's an easy way to save a little cash: Stop using so much laundry detergent. There's a good chance you're overdoing it . . .
Someone talked to a few laundry experts, including Whirlpool's brand manager. And using too much soap can actually make your clothes LESS clean.
Washing machines work by rubbing clothes together to remove dirt, and soap helps with that. But too much can make them so slick, there's not enough friction.
So how much detergent should you be using then? The answer is probably less than what the bottle recommends.
A small load might need as little as a TABLESPOON of detergent. Or two for larger loads. To put that in perspective, a shot glass is three tablespoons.
For high-efficiency washers, it's even less. As little as one TEASPOON for small loads, and two to three for bigger loads.
To start, try cutting their recommended amount in half, and see how your clothes look. Then dial it up or down if you need to. Less detergent can also prevent clothes from fading, and it's easier on your washing machine.

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - The world's first cyberattack happened in 1988 when a student at Cornell University wrote a program to detect how many computers were connected to the Internet . . . and he wound up clogging up the entire thing.
