Monday 11/1/21

Celebrate National Speaking, Authors', Brush (as in brush your teeth), Calzone, Cinnamon, Deep Fried Clams, Cook For Your Pets, Family Literacy, Vinegar, Extra Mile, Give Up Your Shoulds, International Scented Candle, Job Action, and World Vegan Day.

Also All Saints Day is a Christian festival that honors saints, and also celebrates the victory of Christ over death. The definition of saints and those who are being honored on the day are often looked at differently in Catholic and various Protestant churches. In the Catholic Church, the day is seen as honoring saints that don't have their own day of celebration. Many Protestants use the day to honor all Christians, both past and present.

TikTok's latest? Adding lemon to your coffee is the best-kept secret to losing weight.

Over the past few months, TikTok users have been obsessed with a viral "coffee and lemon" challenge. The idea behind the trend is quite simple: squeeze some lemon into your coffee to help burn fat and, consequently, kickstart your weight loss journey.

Besides the taste issue (most weren't fans) what do Dietitians think?

New York City-based registered dietitian and co-author of "Sugar Shock" Samantha Cassetty said "I can’t think of a single benefit of adding lemon to your coffee. I’d actually consider this behavior to be a red flag for disordered eating. Eating for weight loss shouldn’t be about restricting yourself or forcing yourself to eat or drink something that’s not appetizing. That’s a sign that you’re not building sustainable habits and it also suggests that you're willing to prioritize losing weight over your well-being," she said.

So what is lemon good for in your drinks...mostly plain water?

"Adding lemon to your water makes it tastes better, so it can help you stay hydrated. Also, drinking water before a meal can promote satiety, so you may be inclined to eat less and if you were eating less, it could produce the calorie deficit needed for weight loss.

And that lemon really is too small a serving for any nutritional benefit.

Social media users in Israel are mocking Facebook's company name change to Meta, as it sounds similar to the Hebrew word for "dead."

Many Twitter users scoffed at the social media company's rebrand -- revealed by founder Mark Zuckerberg earlier this week -- using the hashtag #FacebookDead. "Somebody did not do their #branding research," one post read.
