Backing vocals were provided by Mark Mothersbaugh and Gerald Casale of Devo, credited as Spud and Pud Devo. "Backfired" marginally charted at #43, #71 R&B, and #29 Club. 40 Years Ago - 1986 Belinda Carlisle released her debut album Belinda. The former lead singer from the Go-Go's worked with former bandmates Charlotte Caffey, Paula Jean Brown, and Jane Wiedlin, and also Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles, on writing some of the songs and as background singers.
