2,000 people were asked to name the most acceptable reasons for calling someone instead of texting in 2024.  Here they are . . .

1.  For a general chat.  So, you just want to catch up, and you know they're not working.  But if they're under 35, you still might want to text first.

2.  To inform someone of a death.  Still the type of news most of us don't want to get via text.

3.  To show support when someone's going through a tough time.

4.  To wish them a happy birthday.

5.  When you're running late.  Like you're driving and can't text, or you want to make sure they don't miss your text.

6.  To book things, like a hotel or restaurant reservation.

7.  To announce positive news.  Like, "We're pregnant!"

8.  Calling in sick to work.

9.  When you're lost or trying to find someone.  Like if you're out somewhere trying to meet up.

10.  To share a negative health update.

The poll found the average adult in 2024 only spends five-and-a-half minutes a day on the phone now.  But if you're young, it's more like zero.

Inside Out 2, the latest animated sequel from Disney-Pixar, has made box office history by becoming the fastest animated feature ever to surpass the $1 billion mark outside the United States, doing so just 19 days after its mid-June release.

It outpaced the previous record-holder, "Frozen II," which reached $1 billion in 25 days.

Disney and Pixar have now made eight of the 11 billion-dollar animated films.

Officials in Tampa, Florida had to remind drivers to stop if they see a school bus with its sign extended.  That means no matter which way you're coming from.

Don't pass if you're behind the bus, and don't blow past it if you're coming from the other direction either.  It's a safety thing to let you know kids are crossing.

A lot of buses have cameras on board now that scan license plates to catch people doing it.

The officials in Tampa announced that in the span of just four days this month, 2,391 drivers ignored those stop signs and passed school buses anyway.

They're doing a grace period until September 12th, so those people will only get warnings for now.  But after that, it's an automatic $225 ticket.

In Pa - If physical barriers such as grassy medians, guide rails or concrete median barriers separate oncoming traffic from the bus, motorists in the opposing lanes may proceed without stopping.

In NY, you should be stopping no matter what!!!!

And while we are reminding you about things like this, you should pull over for a vehicle with lights flashing, like a police car, firetruck or ambulance.

Danny Jansen made Major League history yesterday, by becoming the first player in history to play for both teams in a SINGLE GAME.

Back on June 26th, Danny was the catcher for the Toronto Blue Jays against the Boston Red Sox.  But the game was suspended due to weather in the top of the second inning, while Danny was in the middle of an at-bat.

The game finally resumed last night . . . but by then, Danny had been traded to Boston . . . so he was behind the plate for the Red Sox when the game re-started.

Ironically, he was technically catching for his own at-bat, but the Jays put in center fielder Daulton Varsho to pinch-hit for Jansen.  He struck out, but the Jays won the game 4 to 1.

The scorecard and other items related to this first-time event are headed to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

Carrie Underwood just dropped a teaser for the 2024 "Sunday Night Football" opening theme song. She first did the theme in 2013.

The official season kicks off on Thursday, September 5th but the first Sunday full of NFL football is on the 8th.

A 102-year-old woman named Manette Baillie just became Britain's oldest skydiver and raised more than $13,000 for charity in the process.  Two years ago, she marked her 100th birthday by racing a Ferrari on an official Grand Prix track.  Her advice to people is "always look for something new" . . . and "don't forget to party."

A tech startup in California called Reflect Orbital is planning to use mirrored satellites to sell people SUNLIGHT when it's dark out.

One of the co-founders is a former SpaceX employee.  They're trying to put a constellation of satellites into orbit that can reflect sunlight and direct it anywhere on Earth. Russia actually did a proof-of-concept decades ago, and it worked.

It's mainly designed to help big solar farms keep generating power at night.  But anyone can go to their website and fill out a "Sunshine Application".  The deadline to apply is October 23rd.

You'll need a pretty big plot of land to get approved though.  Each patch of sunlight will be three miles across.  So, your neighbors might not be wild about it.

It's not clear how much they're planning to charge, but it won't be cheap.  And don't expect to have sunlight 24 hours a day, at least not yet.

For now, you'll only get four minutes' worth of sun.  They're hoping to start their initial test run in late 2025.

Today’s Useless Fact of the Day - The first college football game ever involved a Canadian school.  The game was between McGill University from Montreal and Harvard in 1874, and it ended in a 0-0 tie.
