For the first time ever a gold bar is worth 1 million dollars. Prices for the precious metal hit a record high Friday, soaring to more than $2,500 per troy ounce.

A standard gold bar, also known as a Good Delivery bar, is typically 400 troy ounces, or around 27.4 pounds

According to a new survey, the average person knows if their day has been ruined by 8:36 A.M.

Maybe it's sleeping past your alarm . . . maybe the coffee maker is on the fritz . . . or maybe traffic is looking a lot worse than usual.

And the average person has FOUR "bad days" per month or 48 per year.

So how does the average person KNOW that the day is ruined?  Here are the most popular responses . . .

1.  Waking up and feeling sick . . . 35%

2.  Sleeping poorly throughout the night . . . 31%

3.  Waking up with a headache . . . 29%

4.  Losing your keys . . . 26%

5.  Forgetting your phone at home . . . 25%

6.  Running out of toilet paper . . . 22%

7.  Forgetting your wallet at home . . . 22%

8.  Sleeping through your alarm . . . 19%

9.  Realizing you forgot to plug in your phone the night before . . . 18%

10.  Stubbing your toe . . . 17%.

Did you ever notice how many cartoon characters have four fingers?  "The Simpsons", "Family Guy", "SpongeBob SquarePants" . . . they all do it.  And they've been doing it for 100 years.

But why?

Way back in the early days of animation, characters like Mickey Mouse and Felix the Cat had four fingers because animators used circles when sketching their hands.  Five fingers looked odd on a circular hand.

Walt Disney once said it looked like a bunch of bananas.

Another reason:  It's less work.  Hand-drawn animation is very labor-intensive.  Removing a finger saved a little time and money.

A third potential reason is that a lot of early cartoon characters were ANIMALS, like dogs, cats, and rabbits.  Now, they have five digits, but the fifth one is hidden farther up the leg.

So when animators gave them more human-like hands, maybe they figured they'd just go with four fingers, because there were four digits on the paw.

Y2K turned out to be a big, fat NOTHINGBURGER.  But admit it:  When the clock struck midnight, you held your breath for a second, waiting to see if the world would end.

Well, that's exactly what happens in the new comedy "Y2K", directed by Kyle Mooney from "Saturday Night Live".

It's about a bunch of high school kids partying on New Year's Eve 1999 . . . then fighting for their lives when the clock strikes midnight and machines start wasting people.

It stars Rachel Zegler, Jaeden Martell from the "It" movies, and Julian Dennison from "Deadpool 2".  It hits theaters December 6th.

Voting closes tomorrow for this year's Hambone Award, recognizing the strangest pet insurance claim of the year. It's the 16th year Nationwide Insurance has done it.

They named it the "Hambone" after a dog that got itself locked in a fridge for several hours, and ate a full holiday ham. It was treated for mild hypothermia.

Last year's winner was a cat named Giles, who needed stitches after being folded into a sofa-bed. But this year's list of finalists is very dog-heavy, one parrot, but no cats.  Here are the eight nominees for 2024.

1.  Archie:  A dog in New Jersey that got excited the mailman was there and broke through a plate-glass door.  He needed stitches on his paws.

2.  Bear:  A corgi in Pennsylvania that chewed on a bottle of nail adhesive that was basically like super glue.  Luckily, it wasn't toxic.

3.  Clover:  A parrot in New Jersey that got her claws tangled up, like tying someone's shoelaces together.  A vet had to untangle them.

4.  Irma:  A dog in Florida that had to go on a high-fiber diet after eating tiny pieces of sharp metal.  They think it was bristles from a barbecue brush.

5.  Kodiak:  A dog in Virginia that won't stop eating rocks.  She had to have four removed from her stomach a few years back, and then ate two more.

6.  Lambeau:  A Lab mix in North Carolina that ate 250 pieces from a jigsaw puzzle, but only the loose pieces.  The corners and edge pieces were already assembled, and he left those.

7.  Luca:  A dog in Massachusetts that ripped into the trash and ate a corn cob.  He's okay, but corn cobs can cause intestinal blockages in dogs.

8.  Skye:  A Great Dane in Oregon that fought a weasel and lost.  It bit him on the eyelid, but he made a full recovery.

You can vote for your favorite at PetInsurance.com/HamboneAward.  They'll announce the winner next Tuesday.

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - During the American Revolution, George Washington swore he'd never set foot on British soil.  So when a statue of him went up in London in 1921, the state of Virginia sent over some dirt and the statue was erected on top of it.
