The Olympics have started, and what is it about the mascots? They are always kinda weird.
This year they are red triangle things called The Phryges. Pronounced Free-juh or like the scent Freesia.
They actually are based on a freedom cap worn throughout French history.

There are several new sports in the Olympics this year, I mentioned earlier this week that "Breaking," or breakdancing, will make its Olympic debut. Four American breakers qualified for the sport's first ever competition. And kayak cross is also being added to the canoe slalom.
Other recently added new sports are returning this year . . . including skateboarding, climbing, surfing, and 3-on-3 basketball.
In a poll, 58% of people support the new sports being added to the Olympics, including 26% who "strongly" support it. And only 11% of people don't like the new sports being added.
So people are definitely going to be tuning in for those right? Well . . . maybe.
When asked which of those new-ish sports people are "most looking forward to," the most popular answer was NONE OF THEM. 38% said that.
10% are looking forward to breaking . . . women (13%) more-so than men (8%)
9% said skateboarding and another 9% said 3-on-3 basketball . . . for the basketball event, men (13%) more-so than women (5%)
7% said surfing . . . women are slightly more into it than men
4% said climbing . . . men are slightly more into it than women
And 4% said kayak cross.
Finally, people were asked . . . generally speaking . . . compared to previous Olympics, how do you feel about the 2024 Paris Games?
10% said they're MUCH more excited.
15% said they're somewhat more excited.
45% said basically, the same as usual.
6% said someone LESS excited.
And 13% said MUCH less excited, for whatever reason.

Between the Olympics and Paralympics, around 5,000 medals will be handed out. Each one has over half an ounce of iron from the Eiffel Tower mixed in.
No matter what, no one's passing Team USA on the all-time medals list. Between the Summer and Winter Games, America has 2,975 medals coming into the Games. The Soviet Union is next at 1,204, then Germany at 1,058.

When It Comes To The World's Most-Hated Social Media Sites, There's One Clear Loser!
The Google Play Store ratings for the top platforms in each country were ranked from highest- to lowest-rated.
Facebook is the most-hated social media site overall. The Meta-owned app was lowest-rated in 39 countries, including the UK, Australia, Canada, France and India.
Following behind are Reddit (30 countries including the US and Canada) and X (15 countries), formerly known as Twitter.
The most popular social media platforms worldwide are TikTok (30 countries) and Instagram's text-based app Threads (15 countries).
In the US..have you even heard of BeReal?

What state is the most like a Country song? Zippia wants to know.
They used four somewhat stereotypical metrics to determine which states were the most Country: the states with the highest alcohol consumption . . . the highest percentage of dog ownership . . . the highest percent of couples that divorced last year . . . and the lowest population density.
Based on that formula, here are the top five MOST Country states:
1. Idaho
2. Nevada
3. New Mexico
4. Oregon
5. Missouri
And here are the five states that are the LEAST Country:
1. New York
2. New Jersey
3. Connecticut
4. Illinois
5. Maryland
PA is #41

Talk about Champagne problems.
Luxury goods company LVMH is seeing a drop in revenue for Champagne sales in 2024 — and the brand’s chief financial officer thinks it might be because there’s not much joy in the world right now.
“Champagne is quite linked with celebration, happiness, et cetera,” CFO Jean-Jacques Guiony said on Tuesday’s earnings call, per Business Insider.
“Maybe the current global situation, be it geopolitical or macroeconomic, does not lead people to cheer up and to open bottles of Champagne. I don’t really know.”
BUT sparkling wine sales are up 16%
