Health and Happiness with Hypnosis Day
National Hire a Veteran Day
National Hot Fudge Sundae Day
National Wine and Cheese Day
Thread the Needle Day
International Red Shoe Day - remembers and celebrates all those who have passed away from Lyme disease and other "invisible diseases" such as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.
National Carousel Day - Take a ride on one of the fastest traditional carousels in the United States! It is one of only 20 remaining carousels in the United States with a working Brass Ring Feeder.
This 1890s Looff carousel was originally brought to Eldridge Park in 1924 by Bob Long. In the late 1980s, the carousel was dismantled and the animals were sold off at auction, leaving only the motor behind. Through the efforts of the Eldridge Park Carousel Preservation Society, this majestic ride was restored and reopened in 2006. It is one of the few remaining carousels in the world with a working ring feeder.

What's the weirdest ice cream topping you've ever tried?
It turns out some of us have gotten very adventurous with it. Here are a few of the weirdest toppings people mentioned.
Onions . . . chicken . . . avocado . . . garlic powder . . . coffee grounds . . . bacon bits . . . beets . . . green beans . . . squid ink . . . mayonnaise . . . and ketchup.

When was the last time you wrote something down with a pen or pencil? Would you believe some of us almost NEVER do now?
A new poll found 3% of us haven't written anything down in over a YEAR. And another 8% said only "a few times a year." So, roughly one in nine people use a pen or pencil less than once a month now.
37% said they still use them on a daily basis. Another 34% said a few times a week, and 13% said a few times a month.
Only one in five people between 18 and 25 use a pen or pencil every day. Which is nuts, because a lot of people that age are still in school.

Here are a few summer etiquette rules to keep in mind . . .
1. Don't assume it's "fun" to splash people. That includes cannonballs that splash outside the pool. And also splashing someone who's just getting INTO the pool.
2. Don't set up right next to someone at the beach if there's room to spread out. And don't block their view of the water by setting up right in front of them either.
3. When you leave the beach, don't shake out your sandy towel right next to someone. Pay attention to which way the wind is blowing too.
4. Take your sunglasses off when greeting people. That's sort of upper-level etiquette, so don't worry about it TOO much. It's just weird to never see someone's eyes.
5. Don't show up to a fine-dining restaurant in flip-flops. We kind of relax our own rules on vacation, or near the beach. But it's okay to still put a LITTLE effort in.
6. Don't blast your music. That goes for anywhere in public. But even at a backyard cookout, your neighbors might not want to hear it.
7. Don't set off fireworks in the middle of the night. You can get away with it around the Fourth. But expect some angry neighbors after that.

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - Milky Way candy bars aren't named after the galaxy . . . they're named after a milkshake flavor that was popular in the 1920s.
