One Direction. They did get to #2 with "Best Song Ever" . . . and Zayn Malik and Harry Styles have hit #1 as solo artists.
Shania Twain. "You're Still the One" hit #2, and that was her peak.
Missy Elliott. Her biggest hit was "Work It", at #2.
R.E.M. Their biggest hit was "Losing My Religion", which made it to #4.
and not on the list - Creedence Clearwater Revival - CCR holds the record for the most singles (five) to reach #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 without ever scoring a #1 single; as well as the most singles to reach the top 10 (nine) without ever reaching #1.
