Earthquake in NJ yesterday!!! Let the weird theories begin!

Did you feel it?? I miss everything!

The Eclipse is Monday, and to make it a little more special/interesting, check out this video for some natural phenomena that happen.

In eclipse news:  People on the edge of the "path of totality" may want to move a little close to the middle of it.  The predicted edges aren't exact, and could be off by a few hundred yards thanks to uncertainty in the Earth's rotation . . . and because we don't know exactly how big the Sun is.

Speaking of the moon.

The White House Office of Science & Technology told NASA to decide what time it is on the Moon by the end of 2026.  They're planning to call the new time zone "Coordinated Lunar Time."

Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs signed a bill on Friday designating Pluto the "official state planet" of Arizona.

The only thing is, Pluto technically isn't a planet. once considered the ninth planet of our solar system and since downgraded to a lesser status.

Ok, before you completely think they've lost their minds, Pluto was discovered by American astronomer Clyde Tombaugh at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff of Arizona in 1930. Pluto happens to be the only planet to be discovered in the US.

Learn more about Pluto and its status here.

Not sure if you have heard about the congestion pricing for NYC. Basically, it charges most drivers $15 to enter central Manhattan during peak hours. The plan is expected to help the Metropolitan Transportation Authority raise $15 billion to modernize New York City’s transit system, and cut down on pollution. It is being challenged and we'll see if it goes into effect in June.

Meanwhile, The Verrazzano Bridge authority now wants $750,000 from the runners of the NYC Marathon to compensate for lost tolls.

That's about 50,000 runners that are in your city!

Forecasters said yesterday the upcoming Atlantic hurricane season has the potential to be the most active on record. The early analysis predicts 23 named storms (compared to 14 to 15 on average), with five systems reaching Category 3 status or higher (the yearly average is around three). Hurricane season begins June 1 and peaks in September.

Yesterday marked 50 years since Stephen King’s debut novel, “Carrie.” Its 1974 release.

King is in large part credited with its revitalization in the 1970s and 1980s, with his novels praised for their empathetic characters and realistic world building. He has written more than 60 novels, more than 30 of which were bestsellers.

The likes of The Shining, It, Salem's Lot, many short stories, and my all time favorite book, The Stand.

A doctor in the U.K. named Karan Rajan posts health advice on TikTok.  He also just published a book called "This Book May Save Your Life".  One of his videos went viral this week after he explained why toasted white bread is healthier than untoasted.

White bread isn't healthy in general, because it's high on the glycemic index.  That means it breaks down in your body fast and makes your blood sugar spike.  It's one reason something like whole wheat is always going to be better.

But toasting white bread lowers its glycemic index rating by causing more "retrograded starch" to form.  It acts more like fiber and breaks down more slowly, so your blood sugar stays more stable.  And you feel fuller longer.

Freezing bread causes a similar reaction.  He says if you freeze a loaf of white bread and then toast it, you can lower its glycemic index by almost half.

It applies to pasta too.  Leftover pasta that's refrigerated and reheated is lower on the glycemic index than when it was cooked fresh.

Princess Cruises has a new $1 billion ship called the Sun Princess, and they're wondering what YOU think of its onboard casino.

So they're offering one person and a guest an all-expenses-paid one-week cruise to test the casino and report back about the experience.  In addition to free food and drinks, you'll also get a $500 stipend to spend at the casino, along with an additional $500 for a cruise allowance.

In exchange, they just want you to rate the casino "on a scale of 0 to 10," based on criteria like:  Game variety . . . betting limits . . . atmosphere . . . staff . . . food and drinks . . . and support services, including customer service.

You can apply from now through the end of the month . . . and to go, you'd need to be able to take a cruise in October or November.

Over the past few years, HarperCollins Publishers has been making changes to their fonts to improve their carbon footprint.  The new fonts let them fit a few more lines on each page.  They say it's saved almost 250 million pages so far, and over 5,600 trees.

I will make my font smaller on my Kindle to save more trees….oh wait.

If you've been trying to eat better recently, or want to start, this is for you.  It's a list of four common "health foods" that dieticians and nutritionists say aren't always as healthy as you think . . .

1.  Granola bars.  It's true that there are granola bars with whole grains, nuts, and dried fruits.  But even more contain high amounts of sugar, refined grains, hydrogenated oils, and artificial flavorings and colors.

2.  Flavored yogurt.  Yogurt can be a high-protein, low-calorie option.  But the yogurt section at the grocery store is filled with flavored yogurts that are loaded with sugar, artificial sweeteners, and sometimes even CANDY.

3.  Juices.  Store-bought fruit juice usually contains extra sugar and other additives.  It's better to just eat a piece of fruit.

4.  Organic snack foods.  We see the "organic" stamp on something so we assume it's healthier.  But cookies, chips, and other snacks labeled "organic" often have just as much sugar, unhealthy fats, and calories as non-organic versions.
