We've lost two actors in the past few days -
Sad news from Santa Fe, New Mexico as Oscar-winner Gene Hackman, his wife and one of their dogs were apparently dead for some time before a maintenance worker discovered their bodies at the couple’s home.
He was 95.
Hackman was a five-time Oscar nominee who won best actor in a leading role for “The French Connection” in 1972 and best actor in a supporting role for “Unforgiven” two decades later.
Michelle Trachtenberg, a former child star who appeared in the 1996 “Harriet the Spy” hit movie and went on to co-star in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Gossip Girl” has died. She was 39.

Today is National Tooth Fairy Day. And Dental Dental's annual poll for it found the average payout per tooth fell 14% since last year.
The average tooth is now worth $5.01, down from $5.84 a year ago. Sorry kids . . . times are tough. A first tooth is worth a little more, $6.24. But even that dropped 12% from $7.09.
Kids in the South get paid the most, $5.71 . . . followed by kids out West, $5.69 . . . the Northeast, $4.59 . . . and the Midwest, just $3.46 per tooth.
It's the second year in a row payouts have fallen. The overall average hit an all-time high of $6.23 a tooth back in 2023.
The Tooth Fairy has still outpaced inflation though. When the poll launched in 1998, the average was $1.30 per tooth. That's like $2.55 today.

There's been some issues around plane travel lately, but this?
A pilot in Europe was bitten by a tarantula in the cockpit, mid-flight, after it got onto the plane during a stop-over. The pilot was allergic to spiders, but is "doing fine."
The spider is thought to have got onto the plane during a stopover in the Moroccan city of Casablanca earlier in the week.
In a related story -
Last November a plane was grounded for five days after more than 130 hamsters in the hold managed to escape their cages as maintenance workers tried to round up the power-eating rodents.

A man from Omaha named Jason Kilburn is struggling to sort out the paperwork for his daughter Caroline, who was born in November of 2022.
Jason and Caroline's mother dated on and off over the years, but are no longer together. Jason has full custody, because it sounds like the mother has some issues, including drug abuse.
But there's a problem. Caroline was born in a house, and only received a "certificate of live birth" . . . an "unofficial document that hospitals submit to start the process of generating government-issued birth certificates."
That process never happened, and Jason is struggling to get a Social Security card and a usable birth certificate for Caroline so he can get services for her, including health insurance and child care.
On top of that, the certificate of live birth listed a bizarre name for the girl: "Unakite Thirteen Hotel."
Jason says, "I was told it was a computer-generated name."
But he can’t change Caroline's name without a birth certificate . . . a Social Security number . . . and some help getting through all the government bureaucracy.

Egg prices aren't going down, so what are business that use them have to do..add a surcharge. I told you a few weeks ago that Waffle House has added 50cents per egg, and now Denny's is going to do it.
They are adding an extra fee to dishes with eggs.
Interesting to note that McDonalds at this time is not adding a surcharge in fact they are adding a $1 McMuffin on the app.
Also
The skyrocketing cost of eggs has prompted an uptick in attempts to smuggle them across the southern border.
There was a 29% increase in shell eggs being confiscated at ports of entry between October 2024 and February compared with the same time period last year, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Los Angeles Times reported.
The executive director of the smart border coalition says “It’s common practice to get some groceries or medication and cross the border.”
As a reminder, uncooked eggs are prohibited entry from Mexico into the U.S. Failure to declare agriculture items can result in penalties of up to $10,000.

The political climate has made Canada not that receptive to American things lately.
An Ottawa coffee shop is renaming the popular “Americano” drink to “Canadiano” on its menu to protest U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats of annexation against Canada.
Morning Owl owner Todd Simpson says the small change is meant to “make light of a serious situation.”
Smith says he got the idea from a friend who had seen other restaurants and retailers making similar changes.
The menu board at the coffee shop now lists “Canadiano” along with a red and white maple leaf flag next to it. The drink is considered a standard at coffee shops, simply made with espresso and hot water.

Ultra-processed foods now account for more than half of calories consumed by Americans both at home (54.1%) and away from home (60.6%), challenging the assumption that home cooking is automatically healthier.
Consumption of minimally processed foods like fruits, vegetables, and unaltered meats has declined significantly, dropping to just 29.8% of at-home calories and 24.0% of away-from-home calories by 2018.
It also runs across just about every demographic.

A karate instructor took down a purse snatcher in Philadelphia last Thursday. A woman was outside yelling for help. So he ran out . . . chased the guy down . . . gave him one hard kick to the leg . . . and the guy dropped the bag and ran off. The woman said it was like a ninja showed up out of nowhere.

Today’s Useless Fact of the Day - In "The Jetsons", George is 40 years old, Jane is 33, and their daughter Judy is 16. That means George was either 23 or 24 and Jane was either 16 or 17 when they conceived Judy. George would have been born in 2022 by the way.
