I told you it was going to happen - Microsoft "permanently disabled" Internet Explorer on Valentine's Day, shutting down a web browser that for a long time has stood in the shadow of newer, better web browsers.
Microsoft Edge has co-existed with Internet Explorer for years, but now it will be the default browser on all Windows devices.
The browser launched in 1995 and for a long time was the most popular entry point to the web. Then federal regulators in 1997 sued Microsoft for requiring computer makers to use Internet Explorer as part of Windows.
The legal pressure eventually forced Microsoft to open up Windows to other browsers, which soon gained market share.
Google's Chrome now makes up 65 percent of the browser market, and Apple's Safari makes up 19 percent, according to analytics company Statcounter. As for Microsoft Edge, it currently stands at around 4 percent.
Internet Explorer's final version came out in 2013.

For the first time ever, adults in the U.S. will spend more time watching digital content on platforms like Netflix, TikTok, and YouTube, than traditional TV.
"Linear TV" in 2023 will average under three hours a day . . . while digital video watching will average 3 hours and 11 minutes.
Netflix and YouTube are leading the way when it comes to digital video viewing. People are watching about 33 minutes of each per day.
And TikTok viewing among adults is climbing sharply. One analyst says, quote, "The lines between social and entertainment have blurred, and TikTok is now coming for the bigger-screen video players."

Here's an easy way to give yourself a boost: A study found there's one thing you can do each day to make yourself happier. Have at least one solid conversation with someone.
Researchers found it helps with stress and anxiety, and makes us feel more connected. They identified seven different types of communication that qualify as a solid conversation. So any of these seven things should work . . .
Joking around . . . catching up . . . having a deep, meaningful talk . . . showing care . . . valuing the other person's opinion . . . offering sincere compliments . . . and even just listening.
Any of those types of conversations at least once a day makes us happier. But you definitely don't have to limit yourself to just one. People in the study who had multiple quality conversations a day saw an even bigger boost.

Cops near Fort Myers, Florida saw a black Mercedes parked on the side of the road and thought it might be abandoned.
But when they got closer, they saw 40-year-old Michael Sereda sitting alone in the passenger's seat, and he was HAMMERED.
All of the cup holders had empty or half-full beer cans in them. There were two cases of Michelob Ultra and Bud Light inside that were torn open. And there were empty cans all over the floor.
He was so drunk, he couldn't talk. So the cops called for backup to help get him into custody. And that's when he reached down into a pile of cans . . . found a full one . . . and CRACKED it in front of the cops.
They tried to get him out of the car while he was drinking it, and he fought back. So they tased him, but it didn't do anything.
They eventually got him into a cop car. He's facing charges for drunk driving and resisting arrest.

Fox had a good weekend. The Super Bowl averaged 113 million viewers across Fox’s television and digital properties, according to early data from Nielsen. This makes Super Bowl LVII the third most-watched television program of all time, and the best audience for the big game in six years. Fox Sports also said that Rihanna’s halftime show drew an average of 118.7 million viewers, making it the second most-watched performance in Super Bowl history.

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - In tennis, you don't have to hit the ball over the net . . . you can hit it around the net and it's legal, even if the ball is lower than the top of the net in the process.
