1997 Summer Song

"I'll Be Missing You" Puff Daddy and Faith Evans feat. 112

Written in memory of The Notorious B.I.G. and using samples of The Police's "Every Breath You Take" (the summer song 1983), the song stayed at #1 for 11 weeks.

It won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.

Permission was not given for use of the sample, and Police songwriter Sting sued, receiving 100% of the song royalties. Sting reportedly earns $2,000 a day from royalties for the track.
