1992 Bruce Springsteen released Human Touch his ninth/tenth studio albums the same day. Lucky Town was the other. Human Touch was the more popular of the two, peaking at number two on the US Billboard 200. This was really a solo album with no E Street Band. In fact American Idol's Randy Jackson and Toto's Jeff Porcaro played on this record.
The album is generally disliked by Springsteen fans, and in 2012 was ranked last among Springsteen's albums by the online magazine Nerve. Regarding the bad reputation of Human Touch and Lucky Town among his fans, Springsteen said: "I tried it [writing happy songs] in the early '90s and it didn't work; the public didn't like it."
First single "Human Touch" made #16 #8 AC and #1 Mainstream Rock, it was backed with "Better Days." Follow-up "57 Channels (and Nothin' On)" only made #68 and #6 Hot Mainstream Rock.
