1976 - 45 Years Ago

1976 Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released their debut album. It was largely ignored on it's release here in the US, after almost a year of positive reviews, the album finally reached the Billboard chart in 1978. The first single "Breakdown" finally made the charts as well making #40 and was a track on the soundtrack to the movie FM.

Now considered a Petty classic "American Girl" didn't chart just bubbling under at #109.
