1973 - Two duos and a Reggae Legend

There are so many releases this month that I'm taking 1973 and doing an extra post on Sundays to cover the album that came out.

Today - Two duos and a Reggae legend

Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye released a duets album Diana & Marvin.

The two were widely recognized at the time as two of the top pop music performers.

The singles chart success in the US were,

"You're a Special Part of Me" #12, #4 R&B, #43 AC

"My Mistake (Was to Love You)" #19, #15 R&B

"Don't Knock My Love" #46, #25 R&B

Loggins and Messina released their third album Full Sail

"My Music" peaked at #16

"Watching the River Run" made #71

The album also featured "A Love Song" that Anne Murray covered and peaked at #12 on the Hot 100, #1 AC, and #5 Country. It won her a Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance.

I have mentioned before that this is the year that I seem to have become aware of music on the radio. "My Music" was one of those songs.

Bob Marley and the Wailers released their sixth album Burnin'

Two singles were released with no US chart action.

"Get Up, Stand Up" is considered one of their greatest songs.

"I Shot the Sherriff" which in 1974 became a #1 hit for Eric Clapton.
