1973 - Classic Rock Groups

There are so many releases this month that I'm taking 1973 and doing an extra post on Sundays to cover the album that came out.

Today - Classic Rock Groups. America, Steve Miller, The Who, & Three Dog Night

America released their third album Hat Trick.

The only single to chart was "Muskrat Love" which peaked at #67 and #11 AC. It was a #4 hit for Captain and Tennille in 1976. Interesting to note that America’s version was a cover of the Willis Alan Ramsey version from 1972.

Steve Miller Band released their eighth album The Joker

This was a musical shift for the band to a more melodic, smooth rock/blues sound.

Two singles were released, the title track was first. With the word "pompatus" (yea not a word) and peaked at #1.

The second single was "Your Cash Ain't Nothin' But Trash." It only peaked at #51.

The Who released their sixth album Quadrophenia

t's the only album entirely composed by Pete Townshend.

It is another Rock Opera following Tommy.

Two singles were released,

"Love, Reign o'er Me" peaked at #76, and "The Real Me" made #92.

Three Dog Night released their tenth album Cyan.

Two singles were released.

"Shambala" was a #3 hit on the Hot 100 and AC charts.

"Let Me Serenade You" made #17.
