1972 - I Miss You - Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes

50 Years Ago 1972 Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes released their debut album I Miss You. (Original Title)

The album title was changed from I Miss You to Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes and given a new cover after the success of the single "If You Don't Know Me by Now".

The first single was the title track making #58 and #7 R&B. "If You.." made #3 and #1 R&B. The follow-up "Yesterday I Had the blues" made #63 and #12 R&B.

"If.." was originally written for Labelle but they never recorded it, and it went to the group with Teddy Pendergrass singing lead. The song was chosen as one of the Songs of the Century by the RIAA.

Simply Red went to #1 with it in 1988.
