1971 Don McLean released his second album American Pie. The album is dedicated to Buddy Holly. The title track was the first single, and maybe one of the most debated songs of the 20th Century. The final chorus of "American Pie" features multi-tracked overdubs, credited in the sleeve notes to the "West Forty Fourth Street Rhythm and Noise Choir". Although the individual choristers have never been publicly named, the album's producer, Ed Freeman, has claimed that the choir included Pete Seeger, James Taylor, Livingston Taylor, and Carly Simon. The song hit #1.
The follow-up was "Vincent" a tribute to Vincent van Gogh, and many think it's called "Starry, Starry Night." It hit #12 and #2 AC.
