Intended to reflect the depth and breadth of American filmmaking, the selections always feature blockbuster titles intended to generate attention.
This years blockbuster would be the one that launched Marvel Studios Universe in 2008, Iron Man.
Other contemporary classics to be inducted this year include Hairspray, House Party, When Harry Met Sally, The Little Mermaid, Carrie, and the Blaxploitation classic Super Fly.
The earliest film on the list is the silent movie Mardi Gras Carnival from 1898.
