The U.S. Energy Department is expected to announce Tuesday that government scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California have for the first time produced a net energy gain in a fusion reaction, a major step toward limitless, inexpensive clean energy, the Financial Times and The Washington Post reported Sunday. Scientists have been trying since the 1950s to recreate the kind of fusion reaction that powers the sun, but none have produced more energy than the process consumes. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm is scheduled Tuesday to unveil "a major scientific breakthrough" at the Lawrence Livermore lab. The FT reported that the fusion reaction produced about 120 percent of the energy it consumed.

YouTube finally has a NEW most-followed person.

MrBeast reached 112 million subscribers, which surpassed PewDiePie's 111 million. PewDiePie had held the record for 10 YEARS.

MrBeast is known for giving away cash and prizes, doing challenges, and his charity work. Like earlier this year, he did a "Willy Wonka"-inspired sweepstakes with the sale of his own candy bars.

It's always easy to come up with an excuse for NOT exercising, and it's even easier in the WINTER.

In a new survey, 31% of people admitted to being "less active" in the winter months, and here are the Top 10 excuses they gave for not exercising as much:

1. It's too cold. (As opposed to the summer, when the top excuse would probably be "It's too hot.")

2. It's too dark.

3. It's too wet.

4. It's harder to find the motivation.

5. I worry more about safety when exercising in the dark outside.

6. I have less energy.

7. I'm more likely to pull a muscle or strain something because of the cold weather.

8. Hibernation mode kicks in . . . I'd rather stay in and watch TV.

9. I'm less body conscious in the winter because we wear more layers.

10. Costs are get higher in winter due to heating bills and paying for Christmas, so I want to save on a gym membership.

Here are four "tips" to stay motivated: Get outdoors every day, even if it's just for a short walk.

Explore new outdoor places, and new types of indoor exercises . . . stick to regular routines to help cement healthy habits . . .

And listen to upbeat music all year 'round, at least when being active.

In a "normal" bank robbery, the authorities may try to track the thief down by analyzing the handwriting on a note he hands to the teller. But this guy made that part WAY easier.

A 30-year-old man named Michael Loyd has admitted to robbing a bank in Missouri earlier this year, after he handed a teller a note that said, "Give your money now. Don't say anything. I have a partner outside." The teller followed the order, and Loyd got away with $754.

The note was written with a pink highlighter . . . on the back of his birth certificate.

Loyd was also wearing an active ankle monitor at the time, relating to another case. Naturally, the authorities had no problem tracking him down.

Loyd told police that he'd gotten in a fight with his lover . . . someone named Ashley . . . and he'd robbed the bank to, quote, "prove a point." It's unclear what the point was. He's looking at a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison, and a $250,000 fine.

The best Christmas fire starter: grab all that built-up lint from your dryer, stuff it into an old toilet paper roll, and wrap it in wax paper.
