Well, this is good timing:  National Stress Awareness Day was yesterday.!  It's not always the day after the election . . . but maybe it should be.

A group called the International Stress Management Association came up with it as a way to remind us there's no point in stressing over things you can't control, which is easier said than done.

The official "Sesame Street" socials are trending after their characters started posting encouraging messages for kids AND adults this week.  It's an obvious nod to the election, and people online are joking it's just what they need.

Elmo said, "Elmo loves you.  And Elmo will remind you every day if you need him to."  One person replied yesterday and said, "Can I check in with you tomorrow?"

Bert said, "If you are ever stressed, remember that your friends are here to comfort you."  Then Ernie replied with, "We will be there to make you smile too."

Cookie Monster wrote, "It's okay to take a break today.  It even better if it includes cookies."

Big Bird said, "Be kind.  Be you.  Be a good friend."

Mr. Snuffleupagus wrote, "Whenever I feel overwhelmed, my Mommy tells me to go outside, take a deep breath, and enjoy a moment in nature."

The main "Sesame Street" account said, "We all face moments when things feel overwhelming, and that's okay.  Remember, you are not alone."  Then their follow-up post said, "Stop scrolling, take a deep breath, and use the next few minutes to escape to a place where the air is sweet."

What's your preferred way of holding hand with someone . . . assuming that is something you do from time to time?

In a poll, 30% of people say they prefer holding hands with interlocked fingers . . . 20% would rather do it with cupped hands . . . and 38% say they're fine with both equally.  4% said "neither."

The results are similar for both men and women but they are very different depending on AGE.

Holding hands with interlocked fingers is much more popular among younger generations than older. 38% of Gen Z like that method, compared to just 17% of Boomers. On the flipside, 15% of Gen Z prefer the cupped hands method . . . compared to 29% of Boomers.

So is this a change that just happens as you get older?  Or is the preferred method of holding hands shifting over time?

I find interlocked fingers can make mine numb depending on the size of the hand.

Someone asked the internet, "What is something you have seen multiple times, but you're still in awe every time?" Here are some of the best responses:

1.  Mountains.  And also, the ocean.

2.  Thunderstorms.

3.  Fall foliage.

4.  The night sky on a clear evening.

5.  Sunrises and sunsets.  Also, an eclipse.  Which isn't SUPER common.

(i enjoyed this one this past weekend)

6.  Watching an airplane take off.  And looking out the window of a plane.

7.  The aurora borealis or the "northern lights."

8.  The International Space Station passing overhead.

9.  Snow.  Especially heavy snowfall.

10.  Pregnancy and childbirth.

11.  The "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

12.  Tool in concert.

13.  Dogs drinking in slow motion.

14.  Someone said, "Facebook videos of a cat growing up with dogs thinking they're a dog now and vice versa.  It's really amazing how nature and acceptance works."

15.  And someone said, "My wife's boobs."

No matter who you voted for, some us are just happy Election Day is behind us.

In a last-minute poll done this weekend, 28% of Americans said they didn't even care who won anymore.  They just wanted the election to be over already.

Millennials . . . or people in their 30s and early 40s . . . were the most likely to agree with that.  35% said they just wanted the election to be done.

4% overall said they might call in sick today, partly to unwind and recover from the election chaos.  But nearly a third of them said they also didn't want to get into election stuff with coworkers.  They'd rather stay home and avoid the chatter.

A woman near Detroit put a sign up on Halloween to let kids know she wasn't handing out candy, because her special-needs son had to go to the E.R.  The sign said, "My son is in the hospital.  Sorry, no candy."

She just wanted them to know she wasn't home.  But some apparently thought it meant her SON wasn't getting candy.  So they pitched in to help him out.

She started getting doorbell cam alerts, and saw kids dumping buckets of their own candy on her doorstep.  She said the kids' parents deserve a lot of praise.  Quote, "To do that without your parents there is remarkable."

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - White elephant gifts got their name from an old practice by kings in Asia, where if they were upset with a subject, they'd give them a rare albino elephant . . . which was expensive and difficult to maintain.
