Jack Jones, the Grammy-winning singer of popular music fare such as “Lollipops and Roses,” “The Impossible Dream,” “Wives and Lovers” and, perhaps most famously, the theme to TV’s The Love Boat, died Wednesday, October 23. He was 86.

While continuing to perform in Las Vegas and on nightclub stages, Jones broke through to a new and wider audience in 1977 when he sang the theme song to the immensely popular TV show The Love Boat. The song, officially titled “Love Boat” and composed by Charles Fox and Paul Williams, would prove popular with both listeners and parodists, and was released by Jones as a single in 1979.

A German town has banned the humble cactus from the town hall, schools, and nurseries.

The mayor of Plettenberg, near Dusseldorf in North Rhine-Westphalia, banned the spiky plants from municipal buildings after a man required medical attention from injuring himself on a cactus in a school building.

The council reportedly said the nature of the injury could not be disclosed "due to the need to protect the personal rights and privacy of our staff".

The mayor said the ban was being undertaken because such plants could "cause ugly injuries".

He said cacti would be banned not only in schools and nurseries but from all municipal spaces.

I was recently at a bank and they had them on the counters between tellers.

There was a story on the NBC News last night about how disposable camera are coming back. Of course driven by social media. Is it a fad that is here to stay?

It helps us live in the moment. With no instant previews or social media expectations, you can capture fleeting moments in a flash, then get back to making actual unfiltered memories. Bonus: You’ll get to relive the magic when the film is developed.

With a limited number of exposures (typically ranging from 24 to 36 shots) this forces you to be more intentional with every snap.

Best Overall: Kodak FunSaver 35mm Single-Use Camera

Best Budget: Fujifilm QuickSnap Flash 400 One-Time-Use Camera

Pepperidge Farm wants young adults to know Goldfish crackers are something grown-ups eat too.  So, here's their latest marketing stunt.

They announced they're temporarily rebranding Goldfish and changing the name to "Chilean Sea Bass." They posted a jokey ad calling them more "sophisticated" and "so adult."

They're selling a set amount each day for the next week at ChileanSeaBassCrackers.com.

Fun fact:  When Goldfish crackers debuted in 1962, they were MEANT for adults, not kids.  They marketed them as a new type of snack for bartenders to put out.

A woman's TikTok video is blowing up after she let people know they've been using garbage bags wrong this whole time.

It says she was "today years old" when she found out they come INSIDE OUT.  You're supposed to put the bag on the can like a hat, then push the whole thing down inside.  It eliminates the need to shake it in the air.

Well, is she right? No, but She's not wrong!

It turns out the inside-out myth has been around a while.  The folks at Hefty weighed in on it after a similar video went viral a few years ago.

You CAN do it that way.  And yes, it might eliminate the need to shake the bag out.  But it's not really how trash bags are designed to be used.  Hefty reposted the video and said, "There's no wrong way to line a trash bin."

Are you one of those people that buys Halloween candy, can't resist the temptation and start eating it...but you don't want everyone to know (they know) so you're eating it in secret, I don't know, maybe in the bathroom? DO NOT flush the wrapper to dispose of the evidence.

There's an image online of a sewer being blocked by candy wrappers and a wastewater official is reminding everyone that you can only flush the "Three Ps":  Poo . . . pee . . . and paper.

So add candy wrappers to the list of things that shouldn't be flushed, along with diapers, paper towels, cotton swabs, hygiene products, and the weirder stuff like "Dora the Explorer" action figures and underwear.

I had a plumber once say to me (and i don't flush wipes) "The fastest way to see a plumber is flush wipes..even if they say they are flushable."

The Chicago Marathon was last week, and a video of a late-finisher is going viral.  Jeanette Young took just over 10 hours to do it but never quit.

By the time she got to the finish line, everything had been removed and no one was there except her friends and family who made their own finish line.  Her mom put a belt on the ground to mark the end, so she'd know, and they cheered for her when she crossed. A few race officials were also still there with a medal.

She did it to raise money for the American Heart Association, and to honor an organ donor named Stephen who gave her dad a new heart in 2019.

Good for her!!! If I did a Marathon, say the Wineglass that was held October 6th, I'd still be on the course almost 20 days later....probably laying in a heap by the side of the road.)

Netflix made a two-part documentary called "Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action", and it drops on January 7th.

It will explore how Jerry's show became one of the "biggest and most outrageous TV hits of the '90s."  But there's more.  The official synopsis says, quote, "Behind the entertaining facade lay some darker truths.

"As we hear from the producers and ex-guests, a murkier picture begins to emerge of the destruction it caused, raising renewed questions about who was responsible, and how far things should go in the name of entertainment."

It's actually too bad Jerry couldn't be here to defend himself . . . and potentially answer for his crimes.  He died last year of pancreatic cancer.

Airbnb's latest addition to their Icons program is the Deetz home from "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice".  You know, the white two-story house shrouded in black.

Fans can request to book one of 10 available dates for free.  Sadly, it's not an overnight stay.  The experience is only three hours long and it's located in Hillsborough, New Jersey.

It's hosted by Delia Deetz from the Afterlife.  Her sculptures and paintings are displayed throughout the home, and you can visit the attic to see a recreation of the Maitland's model of the town.

If you say Beetlejuice's name three times, you'll find yourself in the Afterlife where you can visit the Waiting Room.  There will also be an art class taught by Delia's assistant.

Canada is apparently dealing with a butter thievery syndicate primarily operating in Guelph, Ontario.

Over the past week, there were two large butter thefts from different grocery stores.  We're not talking about shoving a few packs in your coat . . . in both cases, two men got away with several CASES of butter.

The first theft was valued at $936, and the second was $958.  They got away with it by loading all the butter into a cart, and then sneaking out through the back of the store.

There have been at least seven large-scale butter thefts in Guelph in the last 10 months.  It's not known if all the incidents are related . . . but let's be honest, what are the chances that multiple criminals in the area independently decided to get into the butter-thieving business within the past few months.

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - GEICO came up with its gecko mascot in 1999 when there was a Screen Actors Guild strike that kept them from using live actors.
