1988 - Push - Bros

35 Years Ago - 1988 British boy band Bros released their debut album (in the UK) Push. The album would be released in America in July.

Reviews were..shall we say harsh at times. Melody Maker Jonh Wilde described the album as "ten songs that are entirely modern in an entirely charmless way", and called it "sad and useless" and "mediocrity's snowy mountain-top".

But it sold well and was a European Smash.

In America, the clubs were where to hear the two singles.

"I Owe You Nothing" was the first single and failed to chart. Following the success of their second song, it was remixed and was a smash. It was a #10 Club hit in the US.

"When Will I Be Famous", which ShortList's Dave Fawbert listed this song at number one on his list of the "Greatest Key Changes in Music History", made #83 and #10 Club.

I've always been a big fan of these songs because I first encountered them while in England in 1988. Bought and played them in the club when I came back. (along with Yazz's "The Only Way is Up.")
