1987 Bruce Willis released his debut album The Return of Bruno. People magazine gave the album a B+, while calling Willis' cover of "Under the Boardwalk" "surprisingly okay", noting additionally that the album "shows us that he can't shout songs quite as well as Don Johnson. So Springsteen he ain't. Funny he is.
He was in the middle of his Moonlighting TV show run and did a Spinal Tap like mockumentary for HBO which the album is based on.
He did have a hit with Ruth Pointer of the Pointer Sisters. "Respect Yourself" made #5. "Young Blood" (#68) and "Under The Boardwalk" (#59 #20 AC) were also singles in the US.
