1984 - 1984 - Van Halen

40 Years Ago - 1984 Van Halen released their sixth album MCMLXXXIV or 1984.

This was the last album to feature the original members of the band.

Thriller kept it from being a #1 album.

The first single, "Jump," would be Van Halen's only #1 on the Hot 100 and it also was #1 at Mainstream Rock. It also made #17 on the Club Chart.

"I'll Wait" (co-written with Michael McDonald) peaked at #13 and #2 Mainstream Rock.

"Panama" was next also peaking at #13 and #2 Mainstream Rock.

Popular MTV video song "Hot For Teacher" was the last single making #56.

By the way, something you probably don't know (watch the video) - Video director Pete Angelus said" When Dave turns into the television show host, we had an idea. I thought, 'You know ... there hasn’t been a really substantial urine stain on MTV. Ever, when you really think about it. So let’s pour a lot of water on David’s crotch. Let’s make it look like he really just pissed himself. And then let’s see if anyone sees it when we hand the video into the record company and MTV.' And nobody did! I know this sounds absolutely pathetic to say, but we probably pulled off the first and most substantial urine stain in the history of television.
