40 Years Ago - 1983 Tears for Fears released their debut album The Hurting.
It wasn't till their fourth single was released that they appeared on the US charts. "Change" made #73 on the Hot 100 and #22 Top Tracks, it was their second big hit in the UK.
The first to be a big hit in the UK and the one we know from the album is "Mad World."
It wasn't until a cover of the song by Gary Jules was used in the movie Donny Darko that it got significant traction as a smash. It was also a slower version of the song. If you ask anyone about Mad World, this slower version is what they will most likely think of.
Adam Lambert famously sang it on American Idol in 2009.
