1982 Rick Springfield released his sixth album Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet. The album's singles were "Don't Talk to Strangers" (#2 (4 weeks there kept out by "Ebony and Ivory" #11 Rock Tracks), "Calling All Girls" (#4 Mainstream Rock), "What Kind of Fool Am I" (#21) and "I Get Excited" (#32).
"Don't Talk..." was written to Rick Springfield's then-girlfriend Barbara (later his wife), whom he was worried was getting involved with other people while they were apart. Springfield said looking back on the song, "Back then, I was scared that she was screwing around because I was doing the same thing."
